Have to agree that Lou looks like he's one step away from a nursing home here. It's shocking that in his medical state and age that he had a baby with an older woman. I just read a post below and thought it was wrong. I doubt he'll make 75.

He confused Brian Johnson with Bon Scott. Bon never "screamed" but Johnson did and does. Bon's voice was easily as good as Lou's and I really like Lou.

The master The voice of Foreigner and a solo career that epitomized great songwriting and great vocals Lou has been one of my idols since the first album came out in the '70s when I first heard his voice I thought it was Paul Rodgers and then as I looked and heard closer I noticed he had a different tone he had a similar style but his tone was higher it was more rough but I love Paul Rodgers as well I think the two of them would really mesh together well Lou I saw you at the hard Rock right after your operation and your therapy and you really nailed it bro I know that was a tough time for you and I wish I had the privilege to meet and talk with you since you're my number one influence keep it up brother I'm so impressed that after everything you've been through with the brain issue and everything that you still have the balls to get out there and Rock what a guy what a legend love you Lou I'm going to be doing a tribute to you long long way from home and head knocker and I'm going to be posting it up on YouTube here in the next few months I hope you see it and I'll try to send it to you because I can nail you bro I can nail you LOL look out for it and I hope you enjoy it and it's a homage to you and your craft peace brother Danny turkzyn

The issue of songwriter copyright isn’t complicated. The copyright is awarded to whoever wrote the words. Music arrangement is as important to its success and righteous songwriters will automatically share publishing income with the other band members. But publishing only focuses upon copyright of the lyrics. The comment ‘add a word, get a third’ really illustrates the history of rock music publishing and it’s potential for spurious claims by others.

@JP 8 Hes definitely a great singer but it sounds like hes a great person too. My youngest brother went to Michigan with his wife on vacation, about 10 years ago. He came back (to Georgia)showing me pictures of him sitting and talking with the members of Bad Company, after a show, my brother a drummer, sitting at a table with Bad Companys drummer, Paul Rodgers was the only one that wasn't around when he took those photos by phone. @JP 8 I recently watched an interview of Lou in 1987,he looked really young and it was in Canada. While he seemed very calm and very honest, I could tell, he was very ticked off with Mick underneath . His album "Ready or not" he said that its success surprised the band members and he said it surprised him too, and he explained to the interviewer that the problem was he couldn't get any song ideas of his own through FOREIGNER, and said Mick had no problem with Lou helping with Micks ideas , but it was never reciprocated and that was why the SOLO, was done (Mick had trashed "Midnight Blue" and rejected the song for Foreigner) and he said they had started writing (for Inside Information but obviously the album wasn't named yet) and once they all learned of the solo album doing well, the writng of the next album completely stopped 3 weeks prior to the interview. Lou stated also he was looking to tour that summer (the one with Steve Miller) to promote his album and Foreigner wanted the album out by summer, and Lou told" Mick lets wait till fall, a Lou Gramm album and a Foreigner album at once would over saturate the radio" He said "If they cant wait they can get another singer, and go out as another version of Foreigner" the interviewer was shocked Lou said that but Lou was very honest, and he did put up with Mick for over 5 years of being overbearing. Some people have said Lou has an ego, I dont think so, in that interview he said of his solo tour, he preferred to be the opening act, not the headliner in Lous words" because they are not there to see you, and it gives me an opportunity (with my music) to reach out and try to draw in new listeners".That sounds very humble to me like what he was doing in Black Sheep, Lou even in 1987 was a great guy who didnt mind working hard and making an effort to win over an audience accepting what was he was doing, there's no ego in Lou he loved being a musician,he was a rocker, not a crooner, honestly Mick treated him like hired help, I always sided with him because I suspected that was what had been the center of the problem.

Afterwards Lou left to go solo . Foreigners last official full length Atlantic studio Lp or CD was "Unusual Heat" with singer Johnny Edwards in 1991, he was part of the classic 4 line-up Also( ELlliot\ Wills last album . Best and Beyond 1992 , though it had 3 new songs was a "compilation" on Atlantic and Mr. Moonlight 1994/95 was their first none Atlantic record on the "Rhythm Safari" label and Lous last before his brain tumor and leaving again in 2003.

The Songwriters HOF is more important than the Rock and Roll HOF. Simply because the latter is mainly just sound, while the former celebrates (through the lyrics) the story or message the work expresses.

I've been a fan of Bryan Adams since my teen years in the 1990s. I have always been deeply mesmerized by this particular background singer's voice that can be heard clearly on the song "Let him know" on "Cuts like a knife". I don't know why some more years had to pass until I finally did my research who that singer was whose golden voice was so special and touching. It was Lou Gramm. And I followed the trail that this voice has left in music history. That made me a Foreigner fan! It made me a Shadow King fan! Also a Black Sheep fan! And, of course, a huge Lou Gramm fan! Thanks to Bryan Adams! 😉 Thank you, Lou Gramm, for sharing your talent and voice with the world! Thank you for all the great songs you've made!

Lou wrote about this in his book. He said that he and Mick Jones, in order to determine the publishing split, would write down how much they felt each contributed to the writing of a song. For "I Want To Know What Love Is", Lou said it was "Mick 60%, Lou 40%". Mick said it was "Mick 95%, Lou 5%". Lou was outraged enough that he basically gave Mick sole writing credit.

@Walter Simmons you're absolutely right, after Lou Gramm got back in business he started to depart from Foreigner because of the evidence being shown and told, by 2,002 Mick and Lou Gramm went party company as Lou likes to say, and a few years later the current Foreigner singer got the play by Mick. @Juan Pablo Castano Lous brain tumor started revealing itself by the end of 1996. In April 1997Lou had the laser surgery to burn out the tumor, this was after 2 Dr's previously told Lou the tumor was inoperable because of its location. MONTHS later, while he was still recovering Mick put tremendous pressure on Lou, to be back on stage because Mick said"We signed iron clad contracts before you had the tumor and if we don't honor them, we'll face lawsuits." And Mick also added "Lou, the band hasn't been wise with their finances, this is our livelihoods and we're counting on you to make these paydays" .Lou was in no shape to be on stage, you could see he was struggling in those concerts before 2003, he should've been home recovering, he left because of Micks alcoholism and Mick was screwing Lou over songwriting problems again in 2003.

@Canadiana71 Thanks for letting me know. I'll try this for the 3rd time, my replies keep disappearing. Lou could not father children with a pituitary gland functioning at only 30% and she is too old to have viable eggs. They must have used donor sperm and egg. After the brain tumour surgery, he probably couldn't father children, hence his fraternal twins, which are usually from IVF. There is nothing wrong with that, but at their ages and with Lou's subsisting health battles, it is indeed selfish and irresponsible. Just because he's a rock star doesn't mean he should do whatever he wants. But I think his wife runs the show. He just went along with it, as you say, but he sure likes to present as a family man. In my country, no doctor will impregnate a woman past 53-54. It's not law, but settled medical practice. I honestly thought it was their grandchild, no joke. Lou looks like his life span estimate is not good. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt he'll see that kid to teenage years.

12 дней назад
Paris Jackson
Paris Jackson

@Canadiana71 Thanks for letting me know. There is no way Lou can father children with his pituitary gland only functioning at 30%; age just makes things worse. A man's fertility also declines with age, just not as rapidly as a woman's. Women don't have viable eggs past menopause. So they must have used donor egg and sperm. There is nothing wrong with that, but at their ages and Lou's continuing health battles, it is selfish and irresponsible. In my country, no doctor would impregnate a woman past about 53-54. I have to wonder what the motivation was. He has quite a few kids, don't know about her. I just found out he has fraternal twins, that sounds like IVF. I doubt he could father children after the brain tumour surgery. From what I have read, Lou's wife seems fairly controlling of his life. I doubt he had much say over the child. He didn't have to, it's highly unlikely to be his biological child. He sure seems to want the image of a family man though.

@Canadiana71 Thanks for the explanation. They must have used donor egg and sperm. There is nothing wrong with that, but at their ages and Lou's health in serious decline, it is selfish and irresponsible. I honestly thought the child was his or her grandchild. If Lou wasn't an ill man ready for a nursing home and the wife was younger, it wouldn't be as bad. But to have 2 old parents? It makes you wonder why the desperation ... Lou has kids, not sure about her. There is no way Lou can father children. I know all about pituitary glad problems and it destroys your fertility. Lou said his was only functioning at 30%, that would explain his weight gain. He wouldn't be able to have sex or father children. It's all artifice.

@Paris Jackson I think his wife wanted to be a mother again. She was pregnant and lost the baby a few years back. They were trying to have another. Robin is in her 60's and yes I was shocked to see her holding Luciana. I do think it was a selfish move. I hope she is around until her daughter is past her teens because that would be unfair to leave a girl without a mother who stupidly decided to have a child past menopause and a husband who agreed to go along with it.

@Joey P dont know about burned out hippies and as far as Springsten there might and I mean might be 3 songs at the most I ever liked but I have NEVER bought his music nor would I. I hate the fact any good band and a that doesnt include Springsten but when they ever let politics become a barrier. Bad Wolves did the same with Tommy Vext and that BS is petty as crap and without those prominent vocals of good bands they are letting politics cut their bands own throat and what ever happens is on such petty a** folks. Politics shouldnt have crap to do with bands of historical records. But hey that is just my opinion and unlike those fools I believe soneone having a different opinion then mine doesnt bother me. Lol!

Great interview! 😃 Why is he not mentioned as a Top 10 rock singer? 🤔 Mitch, I agree: 1 Songwriters Hall of Fame is greater than R n R. 2 Foreigner belongs in R n R HoF. 3 Mr. Moonlight deserves more spins on radio + more sales. I like the rock songs. 🎸 Foreigner got thrashed by record companies as much as Journey got thrashed by entertainment journalists, incl Rolling Stone. I go further: Foreigner deserves 1 Lifetime Grammy 2 Kennedy Honors. Backup singing. He is great with Bryan Adams 🇨🇦 1 on This Time from the album Cuts Like a Knife + 2 on Reckless. Back then. 1 I would have been curious of a momentary switch for songwriting collaborations: LG + Jim Vallance while having BA + Mick. 2 And for a change in producers: late Bruce Fairbairn or Bob Rock with Foreigner. 🎸 BA, Jim Vallance + Mutt Lange deserve Songwriters induction , Lifetime Grammy + Lifetime Oscar (so many soundtrack songs). Keith Scott is so awesome that 1 he played on Bryan Ferry + Lara Fabian songs + 2 he wrote with Shania Twain a song for Britney Spears. 🎸 Jeremy: 2x the Mutt Lange influence: 1981 album + Viv Campbell of Def Leppard. 🐕 Great that Mutt works with Bryan. Will Mutt work with Huey Lewis again? 🤔 30 years since that happened. 🎂 They still talk to each other. I agree with Lou: 1 promotions were lacking 2 rock songs should be released before a ballad. 3 A ballad is just a meeting point. Then, a band like Air Supply goes into a direction which is different than Foreigner, Journey, et al. Foreigner should be as popular as Journey. Similar musical style, but Journey worked with British producer Roy Baker, who was working with The Cars, + later late British producer Mike Stone. No Mutt here: no time + he cost $$$. Kenny Loggins has a similar situation in songwriting credit: no credit for Danger Zone. He + Georgio Moroder, who got 100% credit, are working on a royalty deal. I hope Mick gets better. Lou still sounds great! 👨‍🎤

The Bryan Adams album Lou was telling the story about was “Cuts Like a Knife”... Adams was up against it and needed to finish the record apparently that day, and he and Foreigner were both working at Right Track on W.48th St. in NYC. He had no budget or time and Lou was cool enough to help out. He also sang on “Reckless” as was pointed out by Jeremy

Did anyone get a bit upset when Olivia Newton John's "Physical" prevented Foreigner's "Waiting For A Girl Like You" from being a #1 single for 9 of the 10 weeks it was in the #2 spot, I initially thought Foreigner was a ballad band based off of "Waiting For A Girl Like You" and "I Want To Know What Love Is" (I was surprised it was Foreigner who also did "Say You Will").

I did hear "Until The End Of Time" on the radio for a short time back in the Spring of 1995, mainly on the Adult Contemporary stations, "Until The End Of Time" would've done a lot better if it came out several years earlier.

At that time bands like Foreigner, Journey, Styx etc, were ousted by GRUNGE and Gansta Rap. Lou even said in his book, "The suits took over the radio stations, taking the power away from the DJs, and were under orders to play only new (band) music, while the heritage Rock bands like ours were, reduced to "Classic Rock" stations, We'd bring a CD of "Mr.Moonlight to a station, theyd put it on for 30 seconds, take it off and play our old standards, they were interested in our past than what we were doing currently, it was so frustrating" Lou's own words about the experience in 1995. UNUSUAL HEAT, their 1991 album with Johhny Edwards, had experienced the same problem but "Unusual Heat" did actually better than "Mr. "MOONLIGHT

@Marty Martin Johnny Edwards, who replaced Lou and was the singer on "Unusual Heat"(1991) did a podcast interview last year, and he said "Foreigner was really successful, because of Lous singing ability though Mick wrote a lot of songs, they really came to life, once Lou sang them, despite that and Mick was getting 90% Lou was getting only 10% , Lou left Foreigner (in 1990) because he was not getting his due". Johnny Edwards said this, and thats big when your successor,is praising you.
